Rooms

  • A1 2x PC computers with wireless printing available.
  • A3 Includes a suite of 10 new Apple Mac computers with the latest software, an interactive whiteboard, and a specialist 8x4 printing table.
  • M1 Ceramics based studio/classroom.

During School

  • Pupils receive 2 x 50 minute periods of Art a week, which for the majority of classes is a double lesson.

After School

  • ArtXtra is an after school club run on a Wednesday and Thursday 2:45 - 4:00pm

Lesson Content

Interesting and challenging lessons are constructed around the following, with reference to a variety of artists and cultures.

Year 7

  • Introduction - The basic elements of Art - Line, Tone, Shape, Pattern, Colour & Texture.
  • Tone & Form - Making things look three-dimensional.
  • Colour Theory - The colour wheel relationships are studied.
  • Facial Proportion - Step by step activities on how to draw facial features building up to a direct observational drawing portrait.
  • Graphics - Posters and letter forms
  • Craft/Culture - Aboriginal designs are studied and pupils develop the use of symbolism for a finished outcome in card construction

Year 8

  • Builds upon work completed in Year 7
  • Cubism - Investigating Picasso’s ‘Weeping Woman’ portrait.
  • Figure Proportion - includes life drawing.
  • Graphics - Pop Art style of painting using sweet wrappers as a source for investigating lettering styles.
  • 19th Century Art - Studying Arcimboldo’s use of objects in his portraits.
  • Perspective - 1-point and mixed with reference to MC Escher

Year 9

  • Still building on previous learning.
  • Imaginative Design - Using direct observation studies of Natural From as a starting point for imaginative based designs thinking of colour and compositions.
  • 20th Century Art - Pop Art unit looking at everyday objects and experimenting with media. Artists studied include Patrick Caulfield and Andy Warhol.
  • 20th Century Art - Op Art unit investigating figures in sporting activities. Artists include Bridget Riley and Victor Vasarely. Pupils also investigate illusions.
  • Culture - Traditional Japanese Manga character designs are studied and developed into pupils own designs with some investigation into Japanese patterns and language.
