Work within the History Department is designed to support, contribute and to compliment the aims of the School by providing equality of access for all pupils to a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum. The History curriculum offers a comprehensive range of learning experiences to meet the needs of individual pupils.
History is studied by all pupils in Key Stage 3. The school curriculum allows for two 50 minute single lessons per week. History is a popular option taken by students at Key Stage 4. In years ten and eleven, pupils receive one double lesson and one single lesson of History per week.
Pupils follow a scheme of work which is based on Topics set by the National Curriculum. An alternative curriculum is also being studied by selected groups, to broaden their interests and study of History. At Key stage 4 pupils complete the AQA History syllabus B (Modern World). The paper three option is studied by pupils rather than the completion of coursework.
Within the department there are three full time members of teaching staff and a teaching assistant attached to the department. The department is well resourced, using a wide range of teaching aids including textbooks, videos, DVDs, audio tapes and computer software.
