Archbishop Beck Catholic College was delighted to welcome Professor Bart McGettrick as Guest of Honour at their annual Awards Ceremony on Thursday 23rd October 2014.
Referring to his understanding of what an education should be, he reminded us that “we all have a heart and mind which we need to use to make a difference. We must all look for the best in others but also to look for the best in yourself and believe it”
Professor McGettrick then went on to remind teachers and parents that we must all strive to raise “students of distinction” and that the education provide by Archbishop Beck was pivotal to their success so well seen tonight.
By the end of this inspirational speech to the college community, student’s staff and parents greatly appreciated his comments that, were full of praise for the outstanding work the college community had achieved and his message to use our voice to bring hope, encouragement and support to one another.
The previous week, Professor McGettrick had spent some time in the college, meeting students and staff and telling of his recent visit to the Holy Land where many issues remain unresolved.
Headteacher Paul Dickinson speaking after the event described the college achievements in academic, cultural and sporting as remarkable, high quality and living up to the college motto “that only the best will do”.
The awards evening was held in the new college campus as part of a “Year of Celebration” marking the opening of the new campus.
