Even during half term the young musicians of the college instrumental programme were hard at work developing their skills.
As part of the College's Music Scholarship Programme and our commitment to providing a high quality music education, we recently welcomed Mr Sean Chandler to the College to lead an instrumental workshop day for pupils in our partner primary school bands. Sean a very experienced Trumpet player came not only to work with the young musicians but to also lead a trumpet master class. Staff for the day included Emma Haughton Head of Woodwind at the College and Mr Chris Tratt Band Director at Blessed Sacrament Primary School. The day was also supported by senior students Rachael, Kieran and Jon-Joe (pictures show our young musicians in action).
Prior to half term, Director of Music, Bruce Hicks was invited to the Royal College of Music in London to discuss ways of further developing the college's instrumental programme. He was invited to attend a concert by the RCM wind orchestra conducted by Dr Tim Reynish. Dr Reynish has agreed to come and work with the senior concert band in March. Our Director was also able to meet with Professor Adam Gorb visiting from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester; Adam is Head of Composition and was at the concert to hear one of his compositions performed.
