Ellis received high praise for the outstanding audition he did and was delighted to learn that despite a record number of applicants for places in the new academic year, he was selected and offered an unconditional place. Speaking on his return to Liverpool following the London audition and selection process he said, “I am delighted to have gained this entry, the ideal place to further develop as an actor, when you consider the famous alumni Daniel, Dominic and Helen to name but a few.”

He reminded all students in the College 6th Form to consider the following:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
