John White Head of Science and Paul Maziere Director of ICT at Archbishop Beck Catholic College, Liverpool, embarked on a ‘marathon’ bike ride to support ‘The Linda McCartney Centre’ for breast cancer care.
The idea of a charity cycle ride came about in the summer when a number of staff bought new bicycles on the ‘Cycle to Work’ scheme.
In September, we decided to cycle along one of the coast to coast National cycle trails known as the ‘Way of the Roses’ because it passes through the historic cities of Lancaster and York.
Paul Maziere and John White set off from Morecombe at 9:00am on Monday 24th October at the start of Half-term. The 176 mile trans Pennine journey was completed in a little over 17 hours spread over three and a half days. The scenic route passed through Lancaster, Settle, Pateley Bridge, Ripon, York, Pocklington, Driffield before finishing at midday on Thursday 27th October on the sea front in Bridlington.
The two cyclists are delighted by the generosity of colleagues for their chosen charity as family and friends have raised over £800 for this great cause.
