The Grand Final of the Robotics Challenge took place at the Liverpool Exhibition Centre and saw all of the winners of the heats competing against each other. The Grand Champions would be the team who scored the most goals but there were other prizes up for grabs throughout the day.
The morning was again spent building the robot, but whilst doing this the students also had to come up with a brand name, logo and slogan (see photo). There was then a short presentation to the judges about the brand and what it stands for. During the lunch there was then a skills challenge where teams had to drive their robot through an obstacle course as quickly as possible.
Team Archbot managed a very respectable 3rd place in this challenge, but we were there for the grand prize. The 10 competing teams were split into 2 leagues for the group stages and after a 9-9 draw in the first game Team Archbot won the next 3 games to win our league and progress to the semi-final where we would meet local rivals Alsop.
A good win saw us progress to the final where we would meet Mosslands School. In a tense encounter it was neck and neck all the way but a last second goal for Team Archbot saw us take the Grand Prize with a 12-11 win. The team of Courtney, Tom, Michael and Beth were outstanding throughout the day and sponsors and organisers had so many nice things to say about them.
They received their prizes from Liverpool City Region Mayor, Steve Rotheram, and Beth also received the Golden Allen Key Award for outstanding student on the day. A great day was had by all and it was brilliantly organised by All About STEM, and we look forward to trying to retain our title next year.
