WOW, what a spectacular experience it was for all the students when the English National Opera visited the College on Thursday, 26th September. Students and staff were enthralled when the twelve opera singers entertained the College community with pop-up performances in the College atrium and dining area. As you can see from the clips the students were enthused about opera. Most students have never experienced opera. “This is the best school day of my life” and “I learnt so much about poise and performance” are just two quotes from the students.
The year 7, 9 and GCSE/BTEC students experienced workshops in which they learnt all about opera and the different voice types from soprano to bass.
As students left the workshops you could hear them attempting to sing opera. Rhuti, ENO Baylis Producer, said “We were so impressed with your student’s enthusiasm and levels of engagement in all the workshops and at the pop up performances and a huge thank you to you and your team for all your support throughout the day. It was really appreciated by us all”.
We hope that in the near future a group of students will be able to visit the London Coliseum to see a performance from the English National Opera.
